How to brightens up your complexion and look more awake
Are you ready for Spring? In today’s post i am going to take you through my personal tips of how to give a fresh start to your day with glowing and healthy looking complexion. The products featuring in this post i use every time when i feel i need to take the dullness away and look more awake and fresh during the day.
Hope this can pump you up and inspire you for the upcoming warm days during Spring.
Before you start your makeup, you must always prep your skin. I usually exfoliate it twice a week to remove my dead cells and keep my skin smooth ( review of my favourite scrubs here ). Every morning after i wash my face i use toner. I feel toner gives you the final touch before you start applying your makeup. I use Pixi Glow Tonic which gently exfoliate and it gives me that perfect fresh looking skin ( it can be used daily ).
Use dewy finish foundations ( or if you don’t fancy them read bellow )! Products with this finish can instantly lift up your complexion and… your mood. I love Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and NARS Sheer Glow.
You can always mix your foundation with a liquid highlighter or i like to use Loreal Lumi Magique Primer (great for matte finish foundations as well ). It is an awesome drugstore product and it works great as a base or mixed with your foundation. I usually put a few tiny drops and after it catches up the light, instantly brightens up my complexion and it gives me a healthy looking skin. If you are not fan of shimmery highlighters, great alternative is Nude Glow by Dior. It is very unusual and cool product! It is described as a Nude Natural Glow Radiant Fluid Foundation with SPF 15. Basically, it is a product which can be used on its own, mixed with a foundation or you can apply it on a specific areas on your face. It does not have any shimmer or glitter and it has kind of moisturizer looking effect, but without sinking into your skin. So if you use it on its own, it just gives to your face moisture and healthy looking skin. You can use it with a matte or semi matte foundation to give you a bit of a glow. And i like applying it to my highlight points on my face for an extra lift without using shimmer or glitter.
Touche Eclat by Yves Saint Laurent is also great product for brightens up your complexion. Apply it to your brow bone, inner corner of your eyes, cheek bones or cupid’s bow for instant lift. Drugstore alternative is Illuminating Touch by Collection, which is only £4.99 and it is very similar to Touche Eclat.
Use concealer one or two shades lighter than your skin tone! I always apply Bobbi Brown corrector before my concealer, as it helps cover my dark circles and even my skin tone. After that, i apply Mac Pro Longwear Concealer, which is one shade lighter than my skin tone. To set up my under eye makeup i use Secret Brightening Powder by Laura Mercier , which has the tiniest specks of shimmer. They are almost invisible, but ones combined with the lighter shade concealer, it makes you look like you had a 12 hours sleep. 🙂
Ohh La Lift by Benefit is an under eye brightening product, witch can be used before or after your under eye concealer. I usually apply few little dots and dab with my finger or sometimes i even apply it just above my cheek bones and brow bone for an extra boost.
Apply brightening eyeliner to your inner rim of your eyes! I would suggest you to avoid the white shade, as it won’t look as natural and flattering. I use Nars Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Rue Bonaparte and it is beige shade. It glides seamlessly and gives an effect of wider open eyes. If you are looking for cheaper alternative Rimmel Scandal Eye Waterproof Kohl Liner in Nude is almost identical to Nars one and it is only £3.99.
Use shimmery eye shadow or eye shadow with frosted finish in the middle of your lid and inner corner of your eyes! Those eye shadows catches up the lights and instantly brightens up your whole look. I use Phloof! by MAC. It has a frosted finish and it is pinky white with beige under tone.
3. Final touch to your complexion
Apply a bronzer for sun kissed effect and use a highlighter on the highlight points on your face!
If you don’t fancy powder highlighters you can always replace them with cream products. You can apply the Benefit Ooo La Lift or Diorskin Nude Glow, which i mentioned above. My favourite highlighters at the moment are Dior Diorskin Shimmer Powder 002 in Amber Diamond which i believe it is limited edition and Fimstar Bronze and Glow by Charlotte Tilbury. ( review and other Charlotte Tilbury goodies here )
And last but not least, when my skin looks dull, i like to apply Pixie Pink blush by Sleek. It is true bright pink, but ones is blended well, it gives the most beautiful flush to you cheeks. And what does flush cheeks means? …Being healthy and happy! 🙂
