Today I will show you step by step how to find the best time to publish your blog posts according to Google Analytics. I will show you how to track the days and the hours of your unique visitors maximum engagement.
Create Google Analytics Account
If you haven’t signed up with Google Analytics yet you should do it right away. In your Google Analytics dashboard you can read reports and check insights of how readers engaging with your blog or website. This gives you clear idea how you can make your blog even more user friendly. And basically convert it into a better place for your readers to enjoy.
Finding the best day and hour to publish…
Ones you are in your Google Analytics Dashboard you need to click on CUSTOMISATION on the top left corner.
After you have clicked on CUSTOMISATION you need to EDIT CUSTOM REPORT. This is where you are going to type the information you need to set up your report.
First you need to give your report a title. To do this you need to type anything you wish in the space which is located under GENERAL INFORMATION.
Now is time to feel up your REPORT CONTENT…
- In the NAME section you can simply type “Report Tab” or name it anything you want.
- In the TYPE section you need to click on “Explorer” button
- Under the METRICS GROUP section you need to simply type “Metric Group” or give it any title you wish.
- Under the name is where you need to type “Unique Page Views”. To do this you need to click on the drop down menu and type manually in the search bar “Unique Page Views”. Than click on it.
- In the DIMENSION DRILLDOWNS section you need to look for “Day of week” and “Hour”. To do this you need to click on the drop down menu and type manually in the search bar “Day of the week”. Than click on it. Follow the same steps to set the “Hour” dimension by clicking on “Add Dimension” and type in the drop down menu “Hour”.
FILTERS and VIEWS sections are optional. You don’t need to do anything there.So just make sure that in VIEWS section your blog is selected.

Read your report
Now you will be able to see your report on Google Analytics. At the bottom of your page you can read your insights. The numbers showed in the timetable are the days of the week. Number one stands for Monday, number two for Tuesday, umber three for Wednesday etc. On the right hand side you will be able to see the Unique Page Views for each day of the week. The higher the percentage is, the better. Therefore you can easily see the best days for you to publish your articles.
If you want to be more specific and find the best time to publish your blog posts you need to look more into details. As a result you need to click on the number which stands for each particular day. So ones you have clicked on the number you will see the insights for each hour for that day.
Now you can track which days are the best for you to share your content with your readers and more specifically, to find the best time to publish your blog posts.
